Spencer’s Garden Centre has been a Shelburne landmark (at the corner of Ohio Road and Falls Lane) for over 20 years. The business was founded by Jim Spencer in 1985. Jim moved in Shelburne County nearly a decade earlier from West Springfield, Massachusetts and established a successful wilderness outfitting business shortly after his arrival. After several years of careful planning and searching for the best location in the town, Spencer’s was set in motion. Today Spencer’s Garden Centre is a vibrant part of the historic town of Shelburne, founded by United Empire Loyalists in 1773. Shelburne is one of most picturesque towns in Atlantic Canada and boasts the third largest natural harbour in the world. The beauty of the surrounding county with its rugged coastline, white sand beaches and pristine lakes and rivers is unsurpassed in eastern North America. Spencer’s Garden Center has grown from a small family business with a small core of employees, to a staff of 18 full and part-time people. According to Jim Spencer his staff has played a vital role in the success of the business. “Their knowledge of our extensive line of plants, garden products and accessories, their patient and friendly demeanor with customers has been the key to our success.” Spencer’s Garden Center includes a well-designed retail store with over 2500 sq. feet of retail space (with a coffee and ice cream bar), a greenhouse and storage buildings and a large landscaped area with display gardens, pond, landscaping products,and also a gift section with Country Home Decor and unique gifts for that someone special in our lives.
